About Me

From Kinesiology to Content Strategy – and a growing number of interests in between.

In high school, I loved drama and physical education class. They never wavered as my favourite subjects, and I knew that I wanted my future career to be situated in one of these worlds. Drama meant learning about the fascinating intricacies of acting and theatre, as well as putting on plays with some of my closest friends. Physical education meant discovering the awesome science behind the brain and body, while also serving as a welcome introduction to in-depth looks at health and wellbeing. Ultimately, I decided to study Kinesiology and Health Science at York University, wanting to stay in my life-long home of Toronto. My journey while there was both challenging and exciting, from running cross-country as a varsity athlete to volunteering as a Student Health Ambassador. These experiences pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I value the memories that I made. A description for Humber College’s Graduate Certificate in Content Strategy caught my attention one day, acting as my first encounter with a field that I would dive into and explore happily.

My first role outside of student life was being a camp counsellor. For me, the company of children is both fun and rewarding, in part because they offer a perspective of curiosity, which often gets clouded in adulthood. Within the same environment, I became a sports specialist, and enjoyed working with others to design activity programs for the sessions that we would lead. For many years, I was a member of staff at an arena. This experience was memorable for me due to both the hockey moments that I witnessed and the people that I met along the way. Following this time, I entered the world of retail, and stepped into the shoes of a sales associate…while also doing my best to sell shoes. Spending some time at a toy store as well, being in this role was a challenge at first, but I value the skills that I developed and the teamwork that I was lucky to participate in.

From an interests standpoint, I love to follow a variety of sports. The health benefits of physical activity and the positive feelings that come with achieving a goal (as well as seeing a favourite athlete or team achieve a goal) drives my involvement in sports. The entertainment realm is one that I regard with a high degree of passion as well. Connecting on a deep level with a film or television show is a special and powerful experience for me. Professional acting, animation, and musical theatre are also areas that I have a strong and enduring relationship with. To conclude, discovering content strategy has left me with the realization that I can leverage the knowledge gained from different areas, while using technology as the framework. Due to their capacity to help users have the best experience possible, content writing and data handling are my main areas of focus within the space of digital media.
